Idea in Brief
To help leaders capture what they are personally learning as they teach a First Principles series course.
- Identifying new teaching skills they are learning
- Identifying how their understanding of the material content has increased
To help leaders capture what they are personally learning as they teach Leadership series courses
- Gaining a mastery of the core issues that are discussed in the Leadership series course.
- Creating a body of material that demonstrates mastery of the competencies associated with each unit.
Why
- It is easy for leaders to focus only on the development of others and not on developing themselves. Such leaders eventually plateau. Teaching experiences must not be wasted.
- Everyone learns best when they teach something to others. This is increased if you go into the teaching experience with the expectation of learning. This tool, with its templates, will help keep leaders in a conscious mode of seeking to learn.
- As things are learned during the teaching experience, they need to be captured before they are lost from memory. This tool, with its templates, will help capture lessons learned.
- Other leaders will be motivated to develop as they see their teacher also in an active learning process.
- The material created while teaching will be used in future ministry.
Who
- Competency cohort leaders who are leading others through First Principle or Leadership series courses.
Desired Outcome
- After teaching a First Principles series, competency cohort leaders will have identified several things that they have personally learned. Further, they will write up a Teaching Practicum reflection/report and post that material to their BILD Cloud account.
- After teaching a Leadership series course, competency cohort leaders will have written their own body of material that addresses the course competencies and which becomes a resource to them in future ministry. This material will be posted to their BILD Cloud account and will form the foundation of continued work that they do with the issues raised by the course.
